As a health and fitness professional, it is vital that you are prepared for any eventuality when working with your clients. Whether you are in the gym, running the city streets or performing jumping jacks in the local park, you just never know what could happen at any given moment. Accidents can and do occur. Should someone fall and fracture their leg, or collapse with the symptoms of a heart attack, an ambulance should, of course, be called.

Why is first aid important?

However, no ambulance can arrive at the scene immediately. An independent report released by consultant Grant Lennox for the ACT Ambulance Service found that the fastest ambulance response times were found in Canberra, averaging 13.7 minutes. In Sydney, though, the report found that you could be waiting up to 20.6 minutes for an ambulance to turn up. As time ticks away, every second can prove vital to someone that has had an accident or medical emergency, so any treatment they may receive in the meantime could prove crucial. This is where first-aid comes in – and at Australian Fitness Academy (AFA), we offer the latest course in the field, HLTAID011.

Accidents can and do occur, especially when exercising.

If you are studying the Certificate III in Fitness first aid training is compulsory. As a fully qualified fitness professional you are also required to update your CPR every 12 months and undertake a full first aid refresher every three years. If your first aid is not kept up to date, your insurance may not be valid.

At AFA we recommend everyone attends a first aid course, even those not studying to be a fitness professional. It really is a course that all Australians should do, allowing you to help someone in serious need should the worst happen.

What can you expect on AFA’s first aid course?

In general terms, AFA’s first aid course is designed to help build both your confidence and competence in providing emergency medical attention to those in need. This goes far beyond simply dialling for help – upon completion of the course, you will be able to assess the situation, make important decisions and perform such aid as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, commonly referred to as CPR. The course at AFA examines both adult and infant condition, so you will emerge the other side with a fully rounded first aid education.

If you would like to enrol on a first aid course at AFA, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us today.

You will learn a whole range of first aid techniques on AFA’s course.
